Name that blog
A key thing to consider when starting any new blog is the name. This is something you'll probably be lumbered with for the lifetime of the blog, because although it is possible to change the blog's name, if you want the blog to gain any sort of reputation, some consistency in the blog's name is essential. At least I think so. A kickarse blog name is likely to inspire people to actually read the blog, rather than just skim it when they visit, it's a crucial piece of the Blog promotion jigsaw. Like a corner piece with clouds on it. Or maybe the bit with the dinosaur's face on it. I don't know!
With that in mind I've come up with some names I quite like, but I'm struggling to decide between them. As part of Operation: New Blog Order I made the executive decision to rename the blog; however the New Blog Order operates as a quasi-democracy and I shall give you a say on what the new blog's name will be. There is a poll to the left, and whilst I won't guarantee that the the winning name will be the name for the new incarnation of In Love and Death (which will, after the move, be laid to Rest In Peace), it will certainly play a part in the name-change.
Basically, if you're dropping by, drop a vote, and let me know what you reckon. The feedback's helpful, and all jokes aside, I probably will go with the winning choice anyway. I won't tell you what my preference is, but I do have one. So vote damn you! How often does a father allow you to name his baby? Take me up on a once in a lifetime opportunity to be part of something bigger than yourself, something so immense it might alter the course of humanity forever.
Or maybe not.

Come on, man! The Ego Speaks 2: Electric Boogaloo
Really, this is out of both of our hands. Fate, destiny, whatever you want to call it, demands this. Don't fight it.
Well, I've given you another option. Vote for both for all I care, just vote damnit!
I voted for Pellinore Fields. Strawberry Fields has the best sound, but I think it's because it is so familiar. Besides, there is at least one blog with that name already.
Yeah, I see what you mean about Strawberry Fields.
I haven't actually done a search to see which of those names are already commonly used as blog titles (although I was pretty sure Strawberry Fields would be very popular because everybody loves The Beatles)
I might well do a search for blogs under those names now. Thanks!
you know i used to live in the boarding school over the road from Strawberry Fields. People were always getting killed taking photos of the gates. Cars come down Becconsfield Road at top speed and people step back into the road to get in the whole gate in and get ran over... BEEP
anyway i like the name now (made me click here). you could just get a funky domain name, people always coming to my site coz of the domain (:
Pellinore Fields was my vote. However, I'm interested in knowing what the titles may mean to you. Or, are they just pleasing sounds?
Actually they all have good reasons.
The Bitter End was originally going to be the name for this blog. I was listening to the Placebo song of the same title when thinking of names for this site.I thought it'd be great to have a blog where people say "I'm visiting X" where X sounds like it's a "place" not a website. On the same idea of place names and songs Strawberry Fields appealed when looking at the new one.
This is what inspired The Briar Patch, the idea of a "place" name for a blog. It was my friend's suggestion based on the story of The Briar Rabbit.
Pellinore Fields was suggested by the same person, based on both the LOTR reference (as it's my favourite book of all time) and the song Evermore Fields which is based on the battle of Pellinore Fields.
Arrrr stems from my obsession with Pirates of the Carribean that actually shaped my life. I joined a Keira Knightley fansite and "Arr" became part of my daily vocabulary to describe good things. It still is! And yes, I actually SAY it too.
Welsh Hate Crime was a bit of a joke I shared with my friend during the conversation about blog names, given that apparently Tony Blair was accused of a hate crime when insulting the Welsh. It combined my love of politics with my love of insulting jokes.
The Pontificating Id is what this same friend used to refer to my old blog "The Ego Speaks" as. This is also what inspired "The Ego Speaks 2"
Electric Boogaloo originates from Breakin' 2 and how after that film many sequels were critically nicknamed "Electric Boogaloo" for being facetious. It seemed appropriate with this blog being a "sequel".
Finally, last but not least, Soundeffects and Overdramatics is a song off the album In Love and Death by The Used, which is what inspired the name for this blog. Given that I thought of that name because it tied in my depressing love life and suicidal history, and their interconnection, I felt "Soundeffects and Overdramatics" was quite fitting given the more "rant" based nature of this blog now. It's very much a case of speaking my mind on random topics.
Wow this is a long comment. But I hope it answered your question!
I like "Soundeffects and Overdramatics" - something that seems to roll off the tongue nicely ;)
Tongue? Jem darling, why do you tease me so much? A gorgeous girl like you going on about tongues is bound to get me excitable!
Why change the name? This one works fine.

Well, I figured new blog, new name. I may even stick with the current name since a couple of people have said they like it.
